Abstract

This study focuses on the presence and etiology of pulmonary infiltrates detected by lung ultrasonography in patients admitted with intracranial hemorrhages, specifically aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Among 44 patients studied, lung infiltrates were common, with 73.3% of ICH and 57.1% of SAH patients showing B-lines on ultrasound; neurogenic pulmonary edema predominated in the ICH group, while cardiogenic pulmonary edema was more frequent in the SAH group. The study also found poor agreement between lung ultrasonography and chest radiography in detecting pulmonary infiltrates. No clinical variables on admission reliably predicted the presence of lung infiltrates, suggesting lung ultrasonography may provide valuable, complementary information for early pulmonary assessment in this population.
