Abstract

A recent study conducted by the Department of Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy in Berlin, Germany, explored the role of prosodic features in therapists' speech and its influence on psychotherapy. The researchers reviewed 29 studies that focused on therapists' pitch, loudness, speech rate, and specific prosodic patterns. The findings suggest that prosodic features can impact the therapeutic process and outcomes, such as building empathy and reducing anxiety. However, the evidence is inconsistent, and further research with naturalistic samples and a microanalytic focus on critical situations in psychotherapy is recommended. [Extracted from the article]
