Abstract

This article focuses on a clinical trial of the Living Memory Home for Dementia Care Pairs (LMH-4-DCP), a web-based tool designed to facilitate reminiscence therapy for people with dementia and their caregivers. Developed by researchers at the University of Southern California and Weill Cornell Medicine, the app includes features such as photo albums, autobiographical questions, and journaling prompts to promote memory recall and improve relational closeness. The trial involving 34 caregiving dyads showed that use of the full app was feasible, acceptable, and associated with significant reductions in pre-death grief and trends toward improved relationship quality. The LMH-4-DCP builds on a prior digital bereavement platform and aims to address the emotional challenges faced by both caregivers and dementia patients, with plans for larger studies to further evaluate its efficacy and develop tailored assessment tools.
