Abstract

This article focuses on a retrospective study conducted at R.D. Gardi Medical College and CRGH Hospital in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, India, examining the bacteriological profile and antimicrobial resistance patterns in pyogenic infections. The study analyzed 342 pus samples collected from March 2024 to April 2025, identifying common pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter spp., and Staphylococcus aureus, with a significant prevalence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) strains. Diabetes mellitus, smoking, and alcoholism were frequently observed risk factors associated with these infections. The research highlights the rising antimicrobial resistance among both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria and emphasizes the need for effective antimicrobial stewardship programs to manage these infections.
