Abstract
This article focuses on research from Bartin University examining the factor structure of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fourth Edition (WISC-IV), a widely used tool for assessing general cognitive ability. The study compared single-factor, correlated four-factor, higher-order factor, and bifactor models across samples with low (IQ 79) and normal (IQ > 80) intelligence scores, finding that only the bifactor and correlated four-factor models fit well, with measurement invariance supported solely by the correlated four-factor model. The researchers recommend cautious use of the full-scale intelligence quotient (FSIQ) score in both low and normal IQ groups, suggesting that subscale index scores may be more appropriate for educational and clinical assessments.
