Abstract

The article reveals the higher rates of cancer among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBT+) individuals due to disparities in modifiable risk factors, according to a report from the American Cancer Society (ACS). Factors implicated for the disparities affecting access to LGBTQ+ individuals to cancer care include harassment in healthcare settings and minority stress. Other factors for increased risk of cancer include cigarette smoking, excess body weight and alcohol use.
