Abstract

This article focuses on a clinical trial comparing the efficacy and safety of a 5% potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution with cryotherapy for the treatment of genital warts. Involving 98 patients randomized into two groups, the study found no significant differences between the treatments in terms of complete response rates, relapse rates, or side effects such as hyperpigmentation and pain over a 12-week follow-up. Both modalities demonstrated comparable effectiveness and tolerability, suggesting that 5% KOH solution is a viable, noninvasive, and cost-effective alternative to cryotherapy. The study highlights the need for personalized treatment decisions and calls for further research with larger samples and longer follow-up to confirm these findings.
