Abstract

This study investigates the influence of mindfulness and emotional control on online game addiction among college students in Coimbatore, India. Using the Online Game Addiction Scale, Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), and Emotional Control Questionnaire (ECQ), the research found that male students exhibited higher levels of game addiction than females. Mindfulness showed a significant negative relationship with game addiction, with two dimensions of emotional control—rehearsal (rumination on negative experiences) and benign control (positive regulation)—mediating this relationship. The findings suggest that mindfulness-based interventions targeting emotional regulation could be effective in managing online game addiction among youth, highlighting the potential for such programs in educational settings.
