Abstract

This article focuses on evaluating the effects of a parent-mediated LEGO intervention on social interactions of four young children on the autism spectrum in China during the COVID-19 pandemic. The intervention involved parents engaging with their children in structured LEGO play with assigned roles (Engineer, Supplier, Builder) and was delivered through telehealth parent training. Results showed increases in children's spontaneous social initiations and responses that were maintained for six weeks post-intervention, while effects on inappropriate interactions were inconclusive. Parents implemented the intervention at home with high fidelity and reported high acceptability, satisfaction, and feasibility, supporting telehealth as a viable model to increase access to evidence-based practices for families with limited service availability.
