Abstract

A recent study conducted at Katip Celebi University in Izmir, Turkey, explored the social cognition and empathy properties in children with Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD) and Attention and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The study compared 22 children with DMDD, 30 children with ADHD, and 60 healthy controls. The results showed that children with DMDD and ADHD had lower performance in Theory of Mind (ToM) skills and empathy compared to the other two groups. The study suggests that these findings could help in understanding the difficulties in social functioning and interpersonal relationships in children with DMDD and ADHD, and recommends specific therapeutic programs targeting social cognition, emotion regulation, and irritability for children with DMDD.
