Abstract
The article discusses a study comparing neuro- and social-cognition in individuals with Schizotypal Personality Disorder (SPD) and schizophrenia, highlighting the cognitive impairments associated with these conditions. Conducted by researchers at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, the study involved 127 participants, including healthy controls and individuals with SPD and recent-onset schizophrenia. Findings revealed that while schizophrenia patients exhibited global cognitive impairment, SPD patients showed specific deficits in social-emotional cognition but performed better overall than those with schizophrenia. The research suggests that social-cognition is impaired across the schizophrenia spectrum and emphasizes the need for targeted social-cognitive treatments for individuals with SPD.
