Abstract

The article focuses on privacy and informed consent challenges in cross-border medical tourism, particularly in low- to middle-income countries. It highlights concerns about the security of patients' medical records, which are often handled by non-medically trained facilitators with variable data protection standards. The article also discusses difficulties in obtaining true informed consent due to inadequate risk communication, lack of transparency about healthcare providers' qualifications, language barriers, and cultural differences, such as family non-disclosure practices common in some Asian cultures. These factors complicate patient autonomy and the ethical delivery of care in medical tourism.
