Abstract

This article evaluates the relative and absolute reliability as well as the concurrent validity of the ADR-Jumping system, a portable photocell device designed to measure vertical jump height. In a study involving 52 healthy female youth basketball players, jump heights from countermovement jumps (CMJ) and squat jumps (SJ) measured by the ADR-Jumping device showed very strong correlations (r = 0.98 for CMJ; r = 0.97 for SJ) with those obtained from the Chronojump contact mat system, with trivial differences in recorded jump heights. The ADR-Jumping demonstrated high test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.89 for CMJ; ICC = 0.91 for SJ) and excellent absolute reliability, indicated by low systematic error measurement (SEM) and minimal detectable change (MDC) percentages below 5%. The study concludes that the ADR-Jumping system is a valid, reliable, and practical tool for field-based assessment of jump performance, though strict adherence to jump protocols is necessary, and further research is recommended to confirm its applicability across diverse populations and jump types.
