Abstract

This article focuses on a study examining caffeine consumption patterns among undergraduate medical and engineering students in Belagavi, Karnataka, India. The cross-sectional research, conducted at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, found a high prevalence of caffeine use—92.5% among medical students and 92.2% among engineering students—with coffee as the primary source. Engineering students reported a higher average daily intake, while medical students showed a greater increase in consumption during exam periods. Despite awareness of potential negative effects and withdrawal symptoms such as irritability and difficulty concentrating, caffeine use remained widespread, highlighting the need for targeted interventions to address dependence among college students.
