Abstract
This article focuses on quantifying the burden of gastric cancer (GC) attributable to Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection in Asia. Using data from 20 studies across five Asian countries, the authors estimated that in 2019, H. pylori infection accounted for 38.03% of GC cases, corresponding to 415.6 thousand disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs). The prevalence of H. pylori infection averaged 56.29% in the studied populations, with notable regional variations in both infection rates and attributable GC burden, highest in countries like Japan and China. The findings highlight the significant impact of H. pylori on GC incidence in Asia and underscore the importance of targeted eradication efforts, especially in countries with high GC incidence and mortality.
