Abstract
A recent study conducted by Syracuse University highlights the negative impact of stigmatizing language and misconceptions surrounding incarceration and mental health on individuals reintegrating into society after being released from prison. The research emphasizes the need for cultural awareness among Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) and correctional staff when working with this population. The study proposes various interventions, including comprehensive services for incarcerated individuals, enhanced training for MFTs, and thorough mental health evaluations, to improve outcomes for those reentering society. The research concludes that destigmatizing therapy is crucial and provides clinical and policy implications for achieving this goal. [Extracted from the article]
