Abstract
The author discusses a study by Pomeranz and colleagues, published in the issue which described the regulatory failure for food additives in the U.S. Topics include structural forces other than judicial scrutiny that have assailed the effectiveness of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration across its regulatory areas, how an obesity epidemic driven significantly by excess sugar consumption could be mitigated, and important lesson highlighted by the failed oversight system for food additives.
