Abstract
The article focuses on research conducted at the University of Padova in Italy regarding the neural correlates of emotion regulation in schizophrenia. The study involved 56 patients with schizophrenia and 56 healthy controls, examining resting-state functional connectivity related to the "Managing Emotions" (ME) component of the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT). Findings indicated that patients with schizophrenia scored lower on the ME assessment and exhibited reduced connectivity between the salience and language networks compared to healthy individuals. However, no significant brain-behavior associations were found in patients, suggesting that the neural mechanisms underlying emotion regulation deficits in schizophrenia require further investigation.
