Abstract

The article discusses the potential use of botulinum toxin as a treatment for the damaging effects of snake venom, which poses a significant global health challenge, causing approximately 100,000 deaths annually and leaving many survivors with permanent disabilities. Preliminary research indicates that botulinum toxin may help reduce muscle damage and inflammation caused by snake bites, as demonstrated in a study involving rabbits injected with venom and the toxin. The findings suggest that botulinum toxin alters immune responses at the injury site, potentially offering a new avenue for snakebite therapies alongside traditional antivenoms.
