Abstract
This article focuses on the development and psychometric validation of the Kinesthetic Motor Imagery of Pelvic Floor Muscle Contraction Questionnaire (KMI-PFQ), a novel instrument designed to assess the ability and mental effort involved in kinesthetic motor imagery (MI) of pelvic floor muscle contractions in healthy Spanish women. The KMI-PFQ demonstrated good internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and a two-factor structure ("ability" and "mental effort") explaining over 58% of variance, with no floor or ceiling effects. It showed significant, though modest, convergent validity with established imagery questionnaires such as the revised Movement Imagery Questionnaire (MIQ-R) and the Vividness of Visual Imagery Questionnaire (VVIQ-12), but not with the Orientation to Life Questionnaire (OLQ-13). The study suggests the KMI-PFQ may be a useful tool for clinicians and researchers to evaluate pelvic floor MI ability prior to interventions, though further validation in clinical populations is recommended.
