Abstract
This article focuses on global trends in the incidence, mortality, and burden of cancer of the colon, rectum, and anus (CRA) from 1990 to 2019, based on data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2019 study. It reports that while overall mortality rates have decreased, the incidence of CRA has increased worldwide, particularly among people aged 15–49 years and in low- and middle-socio-demographic index (SDI) countries, with the highest rises observed in East Asia and Andean Latin America. High SDI countries show decreasing mortality trends and relatively stable or slightly increasing incidence, except for younger adults where incidence is rising. The study highlights the growing public health concern of early-onset CRA and underscores the need for improved prevention, screening, and management strategies tailored to demographic and regional differences.
