Abstract

The article focuses on two studies related to functional ingredients in canine nutrition and pet food production. The first study evaluated the effects of Ganoderma lucidum (GL), a mushroom known for immunomodulatory properties, on vaccine-specific serum immunoglobulin G (IgG) and fecal microbiota in adult dogs. Results showed that dogs receiving 15 mg/kg body weight of GL had enhanced rabies vaccine IgG responses without adverse effects on fecal microbial diversity. The second study compared spray dried plasma (SDP), egg white, and whole egg as functional binders in canned pet food, finding that SDP and egg white improved protein content, texture, and gravy absorption more effectively than whole egg, suggesting SDP as a viable alternative binder. Both studies provide insights into dietary supplements and ingredients that may benefit canine health and pet food quality.
