Abstract
This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, and parallel-group study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Garcinia cambogia extract on body fat. The study enrolled 76 individuals with a body mass index between 23 and <30 kg/m2. They were randomly assigned to receive either the test diet (containing (-)-hydroxycitric acid 250 mg/day) or a placebo diet for 12 weeks. Body fat was assessed using computed tomography scans at baseline and 12 weeks after the dietary intervention. A significant decrease in body fat was found in the intervention group compared with that in the placebo group. Thus, taking Garcinia cambogia extract containing 250 mg of (-)-hydroxycitric acid for 12 weeks has an antiobesity effect. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
