Abstract
This article focuses on social workers' attitudes toward MDMA-assisted therapy (MDMA-AT) for adolescents with treatment-resistant posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In a survey of 222 social workers randomized to review vignettes describing either MDMA-AT or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor–assisted therapy (SSRI-AT), participants rated SSRI-AT as more acceptable, appropriate, and feasible than MDMA-AT. Higher stigma and perceived risk were associated with MDMA-AT, while greater psychedelic knowledge correlated with reduced stigma and perceived risk. The findings suggest that stigma and limited knowledge among social workers may pose barriers to the clinical adoption and research participation of MDMA-AT for adolescents, highlighting the need for targeted education and further clinical trials involving this population.
