Abstract
The text focuses on two clinical studies conducted at Ain Shams University Hospitals. The first study compared the efficacy of ilioinguinal-iliohypogastric nerve (IIN+IHN) block versus transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block for postoperative pain management in patients undergoing elective unilateral open inguinal hernia repair, finding that IIN+IHN block significantly reduced pain scores, delayed the need for rescue analgesia, and decreased total analgesic consumption within 24 hours postoperatively. The second study retrospectively compared extended versus intermittent infusion of beta-lactam antibiotics for treating ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) in critically ill patients, demonstrating that extended infusion improved bacterial eradication rates and clinical outcomes without increasing the incidence of acute kidney injury. These findings suggest potential benefits of specific analgesic and antibiotic administration techniques in surgical and intensive care settings.
