Abstract

This article focuses on evaluating the psychometric and diagnostic properties of the Spanish version of the Beck Depression Inventory-I (BDI-I) as a screening tool for depression in Spanish-speaking patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). In a cohort of 57 PD outpatients, the BDI-I demonstrated good internal consistency, a mono-component factorial structure, and significant convergent validity with measures of depression, anxiety, and apathy, but not with global cognitive status. An optimal cut-off score of ≥10 was identified, yielding high sensitivity and specificity for detecting depressive symptoms. The study supports the BDI-I’s validity and reliability for clinical and research use in Spanish-speaking PD populations, while noting the need for further research on test-retest reliability and disease severity correlations.
