Abstract
This article examines the integration of trauma-informed care (TIC) within pre-school weight management services, focusing on the Somerset Paediatric Lifestyle Activity and Skills for self-Help (SPLASH) programme. TIC, which emphasizes safety, trust, collaboration, and empowerment, is relevant due to the established links between childhood trauma and obesity, as well as the stigma faced by families affected by obesity. SPLASH employs a holistic, family-centered approach involving multidisciplinary support and individualized goal-setting, resulting in high engagement, improved parental confidence, and positive health outcomes for children. The article highlights the importance of addressing trauma and stigma to enhance care effectiveness and advocates for broader adoption of trauma-informed principles across healthcare services to support equitable and compassionate obesity management.
