Abstract

The article focuses on a study examining the impact of the abuse-deterrent reformulation of OxyContin on intimate partner violence (IPV) in relation to opioid use. Conducted by researchers from Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts, the study found that counties with higher baseline prescription opioid usage saw greater declines in IPV following the reformulation, particularly in states with smaller illicit drug markets. Conversely, states with larger illicit drug markets experienced an increase in heroin-involved IPV due to a shift towards illicit opioids. The research emphasizes the need for targeted policies to mitigate the risks associated with opioid substitution. [Extracted from the article]
