Abstract

This article focuses on recent research from Pisa, Italy, examining the neuropsychiatric phenotype and treatment challenges associated with 47,XYY syndrome, a sex chromosome aneuploidy often underdiagnosed despite its prevalence. The study highlights that males with 47,XYY syndrome face increased risks of language impairment, executive dysfunction, ADHD, autism spectrum traits, and emotional and behavioral dysregulation, with psychiatric vulnerabilities intensifying during adolescence and adulthood. Clinical cases reveal early developmental delays and behavioral dysregulation, alongside limited or inconsistent responses to various psychotropic medications, indicating potential pharmacoresistance in some patients. The research emphasizes the need for long-term, multidisciplinary management and further investigation to identify early predictors and optimize treatment strategies for affected individuals.
