Abstract

The article evaluates the effectiveness of two health education approaches—a tailored leaflet versus a video—in increasing patient compliance with referrals for prosthetic replacement of missing teeth at a university dental care center in Saudi Arabia. In a nonrandomized intervention involving 324 patients with missing teeth, both methods improved knowledge and demand for prosthodontic care, but the video group showed a significantly higher increase in treatment demand (63.2%) compared to the leaflet group (42.9%). Logistic regression identified that having missing anterior teeth and receiving video-based education were significant predictors of increased prosthodontic care demand. The study concludes that health education videos are more effective than leaflets in motivating patients to seek replacement of missing teeth, though a substantial proportion of patients still did not pursue treatment, indicating a need for further research on barriers to care.
