Abstract
This article focuses on evaluating the efficacy of using a uterine manipulator during abdominal (open) hysterectomy for benign gynecological conditions. In a prospective, randomized controlled trial involving 142 patients, the use of a uterine manipulator significantly reduced operative time, colpotomy time, length of hospital stay, and postoperative hemoglobin drop compared to conventional abdominal hysterectomy, without increasing intraoperative or postoperative complications. The study employed the SecuFix® uterine manipulator, which facilitated surgical exposure and colpotomy incision. These findings suggest that uterine manipulators, previously established as beneficial in laparoscopic hysterectomy, may also enhance surgical efficiency and safety in open hysterectomy procedures.
