Abstract
This article focuses on a longitudinal study conducted by researchers at Hunan Normal University in Changsha, People's Republic of China, examining the relationship between smartphone addiction and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) among adolescents. The study, involving 1,531 Chinese adolescents over six months, found that negative emotions mediate the link between smartphone addiction and NSSI, while distress tolerance moderates this effect by weakening the mediation as tolerance increases. Supported by the National Social Science Fund of China and the Natural Science Foundation of Hunan Province, the research offers insights into psychological mechanisms underlying adolescent NSSI and suggests emotion-focused prevention and intervention strategies. The study is peer-reviewed and published in the journal Current Psychology. [Extracted from the article]
