Abstract
Male poison frogs have swollen fingertips during the mating season, which researchers believe may be related to the production of pheromones. The frogs grip onto females during mating, with their fingers resting near the mate's mouth and nostrils. The researchers found that the swollen digits contained significantly more RNA transcripts associated with pheromones compared to unswollen fingers. This discovery highlights the complexity of frog courtship and mating, which involves not only sound but also visual, tactile, and chemical aspects. Further research is needed to isolate and determine the influence of these pheromones on female frogs. [Extracted from the article]
