Abstract

This article focuses on the adaptation of a family-based health promotion intervention, NOURISH-ALL, designed to prevent excessive weight gain during the early phases of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) treatment. Guided by the Obesity-Related Behavioral Intervention Trials (ORBIT) model phase 1a, the study integrated evidence-based strategies addressing caregiver distress, nutrition, and physical activity barriers identified through qualitative and quantitative assessments with families, youth with ALL, and multidisciplinary experts. Key adaptations included tailoring intervention content to the unique challenges of ALL treatment, incorporating flexible delivery methods such as brief pre-recorded modules and telehealth coaching, and emphasizing family strengths to support child health behaviors. Further research is needed to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of NOURISH-ALL across diverse populations and evolving treatment protocols.
