Abstract

The article focuses on recent research and innovations related to health and well-being in older adults. It highlights a computer-based SMS program that increased weekly walking and supported weight maintenance comparably to telephone counseling. Barriers to behavioral healthcare for older adults, including ageism and insurance limits, are discussed, emphasizing the need for policy changes. A study found that transcendental meditation significantly reduced diabetes risk factors and supported weight loss in older Black women at high cardiovascular risk. Additionally, research indicates that later meal timing, especially breakfast, is linked to poorer health outcomes and increased mortality in older adults. Finally, a digital tool called MedSafer has been developed to help safely reduce risky or unnecessary medications, potentially lowering fall risk among older adults.
