Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Warsaw aimed to examine the heterogeneity of adult children of alcoholics (ACOAs) in relation to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex PTSD (CPTSD) diagnoses. The study found that there were fewer cases of PTSD when using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-11 criteria compared to the DSM-5 criteria. Additionally, the study did not find evidence supporting the construct validity of CPTSD. The researchers concluded that further research is needed to understand the differences between PTSD and CPTSD and the varying levels of PTSD observed when using different diagnostic criteria. The study also highlighted the importance of a person-centered approach in understanding the psychological functioning of ACOAs. [Extracted from the article]
