Abstract

This article focuses on the development and virtual delivery of an intensive cognitive-behavioral therapy (IT-CBT) protocol for adolescent anxiety disorders, illustrated through a case study of a 15-year-old girl with emetophobia (fear of vomiting) and subclinical generalized anxiety symptoms. IT-CBT condenses traditional CBT components into a brief, intensive format delivered over one week, aiming to provide rapid symptom relief and improve accessibility, especially via telehealth. The case demonstrated significant reductions in anxiety symptoms and avoidance behaviors, with maintained gains at three-month follow-up, supporting the feasibility, acceptability, and potential efficacy of virtual IT-CBT for treating adolescent anxiety. The study highlights telehealth’s role in overcoming logistical barriers and suggests that intensive, disorder-nonspecific CBT can address co-occurring anxiety symptoms effectively in youth.
