Abstract
This article focuses on medication-related ear canal osteonecrosis (MRECO), a rare but emerging complication linked to prolonged use of anti-resorptive medications such as bisphosphonates and denosumab. It presents a case of a 65-year-old female with bisphosphonate-induced osteonecrosis of the external auditory canal (EAC), highlighting symptoms like ear blockage and itching, and the importance of primary care providers in early recognition and management. Diagnosis involves clinical examination revealing exposed bone in the EAC, supported by imaging, while treatment includes discontinuation of the offending medication and local care, often resulting in epithelial healing. The article emphasizes increasing awareness among primary care clinicians due to the anticipated rise in MRECO cases with growing anti-resorptive therapy use in aging populations.
