Abstract

Ethiopia is experiencing a suspected outbreak of viral hemorrhagic fever in its southern region, with eight possible cases reported. The World Health Organization is conducting laboratory testing at the Ethiopia Public Health Institute to identify the cause and has allocated $300,000 from its emergency fund to support national authorities. Viral hemorrhagic fevers include diseases such as Marburg, Ebola, Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever, and Lassa fever. In a related context, the Democratic Republic of Congo recently declared an Ebola outbreak but managed to contain it relatively quickly despite facing multiple health crises.
