Abstract
The article focuses on study which examined the link between intra-oral halitosis and tongue coating metabolites and microbiome. Topics discussed include odoriferous gases generated by the putrefaction action of oral microorganisms, major nutrient sources for tongue surface coating, and link of quantitative increase in Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica to the generation of ammonia through nitrogen metabolism pathway.
