Abstract
This article presents the first documented case of neuritis ossificans—a rare condition characterized by heterotopic ossification within nerves—affecting the facial nerve (cranial nerve VII). An 88-year-old male with progressive right-sided facial paralysis underwent surgical exploration, revealing mineral deposits within the facial nerve confirmed by histopathology, with no evidence of malignancy. Due to extensive nerve damage, nerve transfer was not feasible, and static suspension surgery was performed. The report highlights the diagnostic challenges posed by neuritis ossificans in cranial nerves, emphasizing the importance of combining clinical assessment, imaging, and histological analysis to differentiate it from other neuropathies and guide treatment.
