Abstract
This study focused on exploring the experiences of family-centered care (FCC) for high-risk infants admitted to neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in Korea, from the perspectives of both parents and healthcare providers (HCPs). Using grounded theory methodology, the research identified a core process termed the "Union of care," which unfolds through four phases: [Wandering], [Approaching with one mind], [Becoming a harmonious team], and [Carrying on the care]. This process highlights the evolving collaboration, mutual respect, and shared responsibility between parents and HCPs in supporting infant health within the constraints of NICU environments. The study underscores the importance of open communication, trust, and parental involvement facilitated by HCPs, while noting contextual factors such as infant health, care environment, and family characteristics that influence FCC implementation. Findings provide a theoretical foundation for developing systematic FCC interventions tailored to high-risk infant care, particularly within Korean NICU settings.
