Abstract
The National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism are offering funding for the Adolescent Overdose Prevention and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Treatment Initiative. The initiative aims to support research on adolescent illicit fentanyl use and overdose patterns among high-risk adolescents. The deadline for applications is March 13, 2024, and a total of $1 million is available for one to two awards. Eligible applicants include colleges and universities, for-profit organizations, nonprofit organizations, and various government entities. The research questions that can be explored include the prevalence of substance overdose among at-risk adolescents, the reasons behind fentanyl use, and whether adolescents who use opioids are intentionally or unintentionally ingesting illicit fentanyl.
