Abstract

This article introduces the Medical Performance Optimization (MPO) Minute column, a new partnership between the Joint Trauma System (JTS) and Military Medicine starting in 2025, aimed at maintaining focus on combat casualty care (CCC) during periods of limited combat operations. The JTS, established in 2016 as the U.S. Defense Center of Excellence for Trauma, uses data from the Department of Defense Trauma Registry (DoDTR) to drive continuous improvements in battlefield trauma care through a cycle of data collection, analysis, and performance adjustment. The JTS supports trauma education, clinical guidelines, research, and readiness across Combatant Commands, and has fostered a global impact by setting standards adopted internationally. The MPO Minute will provide updates on lessons learned, guideline changes, and educational initiatives to inform military medical providers and leaders.
