Abstract

This article focuses on a French nationwide experimentation with medical cannabis (MC) initiated in 2021 by the French National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety to evaluate the feasibility of a new public health policy. Safety data from 3,164 patients collected between March 2021 and March 2024 showed that 37.5% reported adverse drug reactions (ADRs), with 3% experiencing serious ADRs, primarily neurological, gastrointestinal, and psychiatric in nature. Notably, psychiatric events included suicidal thoughts and attempts, half occurring in patients without prior psychiatric history, but no cases of psychosis were reported. The study, based on the RECANN registry and pharmacovigilance systems, is observational and non-comparative, limiting comprehensive risk assessment of MC use. [Extracted from the article]
