Abstract

The article focuses on a study conducted by researchers at Jonkoping University that investigates the prevalence of mental health disorders among sexual and gender minority adolescents in Sweden. The study, which involved a longitudinal cohort of 949 participants, found that the highest rates of mental health disorders were among homosexual girls and bisexual individuals of both genders, while asexual individuals and homosexual boys did not report any mental health disorders. The research highlights the need for mental health services to address the vulnerabilities of bisexual and female homosexual adolescents and calls for further studies to better understand the mental health of asexual individuals and those experiencing gender discontent.
