Abstract

The article discusses a proposed change in psychoanalytic terminology, advocating for the replacement of "Oedipus complex" with "Oedipal complex." The author argues that the traditional term contains contradictions and negatively affects therapeutic outcomes, while the alternative is presented as more scientifically sound and aligned with the philosophy of science. The analysis includes a critique of Freud's conflation of real patients with the mythological figure of Oedipus and suggests that adopting the term "Oedipal complex" could enhance therapeutic efficacy and address resistance to Freud's theories. The preprint has not undergone peer review. [Extracted from the article]
