Abstract

The article focuses on research conducted by the East London NHS Foundation Trust regarding the improvement of therapeutic engagement and observation practices in inpatient mental health wards within the English National Health Service (NHS). Over 18 months, the study implemented Quality Improvement (QI) methodologies across 55 wards, testing interventions such as zonal observations and life skills activities led by recovery workers. The results indicated significant improvements in observation completion rates and reductions in incidents of violence and restrictive practices, alongside a decrease in staff sickness. The research concludes that QI can effectively facilitate the rapid testing and scaling of interventions across healthcare systems. [Extracted from the article]
