Abstract

This article examines the mental health and wellbeing of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) staff from an occupational psychology perspective, focusing on the work-related challenges they face, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. It highlights the emotional burdens, poor working conditions, and ethical dilemmas ICU staff encounter, which contribute to high rates of burnout, anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. The Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) model is used to explain how increased job demands combined with limited resources negatively impact ICU staff wellbeing. The article emphasizes the need for tailored, whole-system interventions at both individual and organizational levels to address these challenges and support ICU staff, ultimately improving patient care outcomes.
