Abstract
The article focuses on the current challenges and future directions for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in diagnosing and prognosticating acute appendicitis. It highlights limitations such as small, single-center datasets, lack of external validation, heterogeneity in input variables, and limited interpretability of AI models, which hinder their generalizability and clinical adoption. The article emphasizes the need for prospective, multicenter validation studies, regulatory approval, ethical considerations including bias mitigation, and seamless integration into healthcare systems to ensure AI tools can effectively support clinical decision-making and improve patient outcomes.
